Summary of Journey to the End of the Earth
The Story is all about the journey of the author to the Russian Vessel which headed toward Antarctica. As in this chapter, some of the interesting things known is that the author has traveled around 100 Hours in a car, airplane, and ship. The main purpose of traveling is to have proper knowledge of Antarctica in detail so here we see the journey of the author and the current condition of the place.
Antarctica is a habitat covered with 90% of the snow of the earth with no buildings, trees, or anything. Everything is surrounded by silence and ice. This puts the author in a wonder situation where India and Antarctica are the same part of land mass. Here we talk of 650 Million years ago southern side of the supercontinent named Gondwana whose climatic conditions should be warmer and contain a huge variety of flora and fauna.
The Gondwana continent flourished all before Human Being’s arrival and the extinction of Dinosaurs. The continent of the Gondwana is separated and variation in the climatic change occurs. So, to study the continent of Antarctica we must have to see it closely.
As, when we learn about the ecosystem of Antarctica and its biodiversity, we can see that small consequences can affect the environment. For example, the depletion of the ozone layer has created a great impact on the carbon cycle and the lives of birds and animals.
We also learn about the things that contribute most for changing the climate For example Burning of Fossil Fuels, deforestation, etc. Now in the end author observes the melting of ice which makes her wonder about whether the beauty will be reserved or damaged for future generation.
