Summary of The Tiger King

The story is all about the time during which British rule over India and the King used to live under British control. The story revolves around the Central Character Sir Jilani Jung Bahadur also known as “Tiger King”. The reason behind giving this name is because he was born under the sign of bull and tiger. When he was 10 days old an Astrologer predicted that the king would die at an early age and added that the tiger would be the main reason behind his death. Like all the other royal children the king (child) is nurtured with royal facilities. He was taken care of by an English nanny, drank the milk of an English cow, and taught by an English teacher.

At the age of 20, he was crowned as the King of Pratibandapuram and the prediction of his death was recalled to him. So to safeguard himself he decided to kill the tiger but was warned by the Astrologer that he may kill 99 tigers but the 100th tiger will take revenge of all of them.

One day a high ranking British Official visited the state and wanted to go to hunt for a tiger. But his wish was declined by the king so to please the officer he sent Fifty Diamond Rings worth 3 Lakhs Rs. expecting that she (the officer’s wife) would take one or two but she kept all of them. But by this, Maharaja managed to save the kingdom from the anger of the British Empire.

In 10 years he killed seventy Tigers and did not find any in his state so he decided to get married to a girl from a state which has a good number of Tigers. Whenever Tiger visited lawns house he used to kill 5 to 6 Tiger and ultimately he killed 99 Tiger and had a shortage of one. He asked his Deewan to arrange a Tiger otherwise he had to face his anger. Deewan visited a people’s park and brought an old Tiger. The Minister planted that old tiger in the forest for his King. King tries to kill the Tiger but the bullet does not hit them. So in fear, the staff killed the tiger and brought it to the King in the Grand Procession. Now he was free from the fear that the Astrologer predicted. At last, when it was his son’s third birthday he decided to gift a wooden Tiger which was poorly carved. So while playing with the tiger a tiny silver piercing takes place on his right thumb due to which infection takes place as a result the Maharaja dies. Thus, the Hundredth Tiger took the final revenge to the “Tiger King”.
